The Sanctuary

Friend Farm Animal Sanctuary is located on a beautiful 10 acre site in rural Kent. We were established in 1994 and have given sanctuary to upward of 2000 animals in the following 25 years. We currently have approximately 200 non human animal residents including pigs, goats, sheep, cows, hens, ducks, geese, turkeys and more.

Each year our annual vegan music festival gets bigger and better! Please join us this year for our 25th year celebratory 2 day festival with live music, amazing vegan food, awesome company, outdoor camping, and glorious summer vibes.

All proceeds after costs come to Friend Farm Animal Sanctuary

You can expect

  • Amazing vegan catering onsite.

  • A lineup of awesome live music

  • A well stocked bar

  • Basic washing and toilet facilities

  • Live acts from Friday 26th 7:00 p.m. - Sunday 6:00 p.m.

  • Outdoor camping, bring your own tent

  • Sanctuary guided tour

  • Yoga and activities

  • Sanctuary merchandise for sale

Note

  • Sorry no dogs allowed (except for guide dogs) to prioritise the safety of our free range rescued animals.

  • This is vegan festival, please fully respect these principles by not bringing any meat, eggs or dairy onsite.

  • Our animals are our number 1 priority. FRIEND is a large 10 acre site and the music is contained centrally away from the animals who are free-roaming as much as possible. They are able to keep a very comfortable distance throughout the weekend and remain in very peaceful areas of the sanctuary with little impact on their day to day business. The volunteers see FRIEND as the animals' home first and foremost, and a space for the musical festival second and we manage the event with their well-being prioritised

Please join us for a special spring open day celebrating 25 years of animal rescue

Friend Farm Animal Sanctuary was established in 1994 and this year we have very proudly achieved our 25th year. In our lifetime we have been able to offer a loving, caring, lifelong, no-kill, free-roaming, safe-haven to almost 2000 abandoned, abused and neglected non-human animals including a large number rescued from the meat and dairy industries.

We will be celebrating with a big open day with guided tours, a 25 prize raffle, vegan food, vegan cakes, feeding the animals, live music and lots more...

We will also unveil our new goat paddock in the afternoon and Hella, Amma, Astrid and Freya our 4 new baby goats will be graduating out the paddock on that day too to become free roaming with the big goats.

Please help us celebrate our 25th Anniversary at our first open day of the year

Letting the cows out the barn

Letting the cows out the barn

Please join us for this special work party

Letting the cows out the barn has been a tradition at FRIEND since we first rescued the herd.

SOLD OUT

THERE WILL BE SOME £5 TICKETS AVAILABLE ON THE DAY ON THE GATE

FRIEND_2018_27.jpg

Come and watch our gentle old cows stepping out the barn for spring

Over the cold winter months the cows live indoors, this protects them from the harshness of winter but also allows the land to rest and replenish itself. They then spend most of the spring, summer and autumn months enjoying the enriched grazing.

Once upon a time when the cows were young they would leap and bound when they were let out the barn giving our special work parties the joy and thrill of seeing them frolic with delight. Of course we now have a wonderful herd of grand, aged cows. Rosie will be 21 this year and the rest of the herd will all be turning 20. These days it can be a bit of an anti climax, we open the barn door and the cows amble out and start grazing, the end. It is a funny contrast to the olden days of leaping and bounding but also a wonderful reminder that we have given these amazing beings 20 years of sanctuary to grow old and live out their lives as naturally as is possible.

A note about parking and transport

We encourage you ideally and where possible to come by public transport and there will be ongoing lifts to and from Paddock Wood station at the start and end of the day. Lifts will be from the side of the station where trains come in from London.
